What are magic mushrooms?
Magic mushrooms are a type of mushroom, a number
of which grow wild in the U.K. The main type of magic mushroom is the
Liberty Cap mushroom. Magic mushrooms are also known as; mushies, happies,
sillies and 'shrooms.
What do magic mushrooms look like?
Magic mushrooms look like brown dried up mushrooms.
How are magic mushrooms taken?
Magic mushrooms are usually eaten raw, dried or
cooked in food. They can also be brewed and made into a tea-type drink.
What are the immediate effects of magic mushrooms?
Magic mushrooms make the user have a ‘trip’
a bit like taking L.S.D. but milder and shorter. People taking magic mushrooms often laugh a
lot and feel very relaxed. A trip usually lasts about 4 hours.
Users may experience a bad stomach-ache, sickness and/or diarrhoea.
Worse still you may eat the wrong type of mushroom, many mushrooms which
look like magic ones, are very poisonous. Eating a poisonous mushroom
can cause serious illness and even fatal poisoning.
A bad trip may also happen, especially if the user
is already feeling anxious or depressed. A bad trip can be very frightening
and once the trip has started there is no stopping it.
What are the long-term effects of magic mushrooms?
If taken regularly magic mushrooms can cause and
complicate mental health problems.
What is the legal status of magic mushrooms?
It isn’t an offence to possess raw magic mushrooms
but it is an offence to possess any preparation of them e.g. when they
are dried or stewed. Once prepared magic mushrooms are a class A drug.
