Encephalitis : Means inflammation of the brain, it differs from meningitis which is an inflammation of the meninges (the lining of the brain). Encephalitis is very rare and is usually caused by a virus e.g. measles or mumps. The symptoms of encephalitis include fits, drowsiness and confusion, which could lead to a coma. Epilepsy may develop weeks or months after the initial infection has subsided.
